Give Thanks for Giveaways!

With the major cooking and blogging slump I seem to be in, it seems like an opportune time for a giveaway!

I have a copy of Dinner: A Love Story for one of you! I own and love this cookbook, and I adore Jenny's blog of the same name.

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is answer this question in the comments:

What is your favorite way to use up your Thanksgiving leftovers?

Every year, I rip out intriguing recipes from my November magazines. Things like Turkey Empanadas and Turkey Pot Pies always tempt me, and yet I find myself reheating all my favorites on one big plate day after day, until they are gone. I only get these gems once a year, so I want to enjoy them while I can!

What about you?

Answer below before Friday, November 15th at midnight.
Good luck!

Giveaway!

I have a lot to be thankful for, as we all do. And to show my thanks for your kind words and comments, how about a giveaway?

This time, I'm offering up a one-year subscription (10 issues) to my favorite magazine EVER; one that offers up endless dinner inspiration and probably the most frequently cited source of recipes on this here blog.

Seriously, I love this magazine. It's jam-packed each month with delicious ideas for getting dinner on the table day in and day out (hence the name).

To enter the giveaway, leave a comment on this post answering the following question:

What's your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
(For me, it's hard to choose between my Grannie's dressing and gravy and my mom's broccoli-rice casserole.)

You have until Friday, November 26th at 10 pm to enter the giveaway.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Project Food Blog- You can't win them all

Well, my participation in the Project Food Blog contest has reached its end.
Thank you tremendously to those of you who voted for me and left comments!

To soothe my sorrows, how about a giveaway?!

I came across another great copy of Sara Moulton Cooks at Home while at the bookstore last weekend. "Home Cooking," "Family Meals"- these are huge buzz words for me right now. I am rarely disappointed in any cookbook that focuses on good, home cooked family meals.
This book is no exception.
Sara is a former chef for Gourmet Magazine and hosted Sara's Secrets on Food Network for years. Now she's popping up on PBS and is more adorable than ever.

For your chance to win this delightful cookbook:
1. Leave a comment on this post sharing one of your favorite family meals (from your childhood, something you make now, whatever!)
2. For a second shot at winning, follow my blog (by clicking the button to the right). Leave a comment telling me you're a follower. If you already follow, leave me a comment telling me!
3. For a third chance, link to this giveaway on your own blog. Again, leave another comment telling me you've done so.

Giveaway ends at 10 pm CST on Monday, October 4.
Winner will be announced Tuesday morning.

Thanks again for your help and support during my run in Project Food Blog!
Good Luck!

We have a winner!

And the winner is:

We light candles in lanterns every night of Advent and say a short liturgy together. We also spread out the gift giving/opening over the twelve days of Christmas rather than one big hurrah where things get lost and ignored. Both of these things slow us down in a season where it is entirely too easy to rush around.

Please email me the name and address of the person you want your subscription sent to!

Thanks for the entries, everyone! I loved reading them and was inspired by your traditions!

Just in time for the Holidays

When I was a Freshman in college, I started subscribing to two different magazines- In Style (basically because it was HUGE and wouldn't fit into my tiny mailbox and so they had to alert me of its arrival with one of the coveted Pink Package slips!) and Better Homes and Gardens.

I have long since moved on from In Style, but my Better Homes and Gardens subscription is still going strong. It is one of my favorite monthly delights. I get inspired by the homes I see, a clever idea, and almost always tear out a recipe or two from every issue.

Do you subscribe to BHG? If not, would you like to? If you already do, would you like to give someone the gift of a subscription of their own?

Enter my giveaway!
One lucky commenter will receive a year's subscription to Better Homes and Gardens sent to the address of their choosing. You have until Sunday night at 7 pm (central time) to answer this question:

What's a Christmas tradition from your childhood that you plan on keeping with your own family? or... What Christmas traditions are you starting?

And the Joy goes to...

Comment #6, Bammers! (chosen by the generator of randomness here in my house, N.)

Congrats, Becky! Email me your address and I'll send this your way! (keelysteger@yahoo.com)

And thanks to all of you for your fabulous comments. I need to write all of these down and hang them up in my kitchen for those days where cooking is the last thing that brings me joy! I really enjoyed reading them.

I'll keep hitting up Half Price Books and the library sales and see if I can't scrounge up some more giveaway-worthy items for you all!

A Joy of a Giveaway!

Today I'm offering one lucky reader a indispensable kitchen tool. I myself received this go-to guide for Christmas 2 years ago (thanks, Sister!!) and it has quickly become well-loved and well-used.

My pizza dough, my blueberry muffins, my oatmeal raisin cookies, my steak fajitas...
all found here. Among many, many, MANY more fabulous recipes!

Want it?
Want a copy of JOY of Cooking? (The 1997 version, a bit older than what I have, but just as fabulous!)

Leave me a comment letting me know:
What about cooking brings you joy?
Is it the process? The smells? The colors? The end result? Sharing with friends and family? Or if you hate cooking, you can say that, too.
Leave a comment before tomorrow, July 22nd at 7 pm (central time).
I'll announce a randomly selected winner on Thursday!
